 Engineered Fuels Technologies
All of the conversion technologies cited above will benefit from the engineering of optimal feedstock blends, including residues from other ZWES processes, as illustrated in the Pellet Boilers section.
Target dry waste streams for engineered fuel blends include:
- Railroad ties
- Construction and demolition waste wood
- Pallets
- Non-chlorinated plastics
- Shredded paper
- Tires
- Roof shingles
- Yard clippings
- Forest slash (undergrowth, limbs)
These materials are reduced by grinding or shredding before being mixed into the target blends and pelletized or briquetted, depending upon the conversion equipment to be used. ZWES will also develop binders for all of its dry fuels by mixing and emulsifying with bio oils.
Wet wastes will be digested individually or mixed into engineered substrates with ideal properties to maximize biofuels, chemicals or (for agricultural applications) biogas output. Targeted wet waste streams for engineered fuel blends include:
- Sewage sludge and septage
- Source separated organics from households, restaurants, hotels, and institutions
- Slaughterhouse/rendering plant animal wastes
- Restaurant oils
- Wet distiller's grain from breweries and distillers
- Animal manure (cattle, pigs, chicken)
- Paper mill sludge
